Guitar In the Style of Jonathan Stout, Vol. 1-3 (DC Music School)

Back in 2022 I recorded three volumes for DC-Music School. The first two are mostly electric, Charlie Christian-influenced single note playing, and the third is mostly acoustic, Allan Reuss-influenced chord-soloing. While there is some “teaching”, the power of the DC-Music School approach is to give you the vocabularly to play the style. And it does this using Soundslice as it’s platform, so it consists of numerous examples of me playing over standard tunes as I would on a gig - and they are meticulously transcribed, and that notation syncs perfectly with the video, so you can slow down or loop parts to drill difficult passages. For anyone interested in private lessons, these volumes provide the ideal “workbook” to explore and the learn my styles of guitar playing.

TRANSCRIPTIONS

PDF Transcriptions at jonathanstout.bandcamp.com

I have published 4 transcriptions as PDF’s of my original solo guitar pieces “Pickin’ for Charlie”, “Charlie’s Lullabye”, “All Cooped Up”, and “Front Porch Swing”, and they are for sale at BANDCAMP. Please be aware, they’re not exactly a “digital download”, they’re considered “merch”, so I have to manually email them in response, so depending on where I am in the world, that can be less than instantaneous.

Soundslice.com / Soundslice Store

Soundslice is a proundly useful tool to learn and teach guitar, and I personally find it vastly more effective than a printed piece of sheet music. Soundslice allows the user to watch video of the perfomance with notation on-screen that is SYNCed - and it allows users to slow down the track or loop sections in a way that makes it ideal to master tricky passages. I personally use Soundslice to teach myself transcriptions of original-era playing that I need to learn or re-learn. So far, I have two solo guitar-pieces up in the Soundslice store, and more coming soon. There are also quite a few pieces I’ve transcribed and put up on Soundslice for FREE, so check it out. Private Lessons

I do offer private lessons, either in person in the Los Angeles-area, or via the video conferencing app of your choice. The main trick is getting them scheduled, since I don’t have a consistent schedule. But if you fill this webform out, we’ll make it happen.
Also the webform contains a bunch of info, including rates.
